Temporary Orthoptic Placement Service

The Fine Print

To register with T.O.P.S. an individual needs to be eligible for registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board.

T.O.P.S acts as an agent between orthoptists and their workplaces. T.O.P.S does not employ orthoptists, so each locum will be registered with their own ABN and will provide their own invoice for each locum session worked. Most, but not all, orthoptists do not charge GST. This varies depending on their own individual tax situation.

All taxation and superannuation is the responsibility of each orthoptist. Individual orthoptists may qualify for superannuation payments from individual workplaces if they earn above the minimum amount required per month. Please refer to the ATO website for more information: www.ato.gov.au

T.O.P.S. recommends that all registered locum orthoptists have personal professional indemnity insurance.

While it is not a requirement, a valid Police Check and Working With Children's Check are also helpful.
