Changes to T.O.P.S in 2022


Good news for orthoptists in 2022!!!


There will be some changes to TOPS in 2022. From January 1 2022, the requesting facility will incur a booking fee for every locum session filled. Unfilled sessions will not incur this fee.


The booking fee is $25.00 per session, ie $25.00 for 1/2 day and $50.00 for a whole day. This is similar to the commission that the orthoptists were previously charged. 


As we are introducing the new booking fee, the sessional rate for locum orthoptists will remain unchanged for the time being. The locum orthoptist will invoice you directly as usual, unless a previous arrangement has been made with TOPS. TOPS will invoice you the booking fee for each session requested and filled, each month. Unfilled sessions will not be charged. Please note all subsequent sessions requested of an orthoptist previously booked through TOPS will incur the  booking fee.

The Mobile App!

The mobile App has been up and running for more than 6 months now and I am pleased to say it is going well!!

What it means for the oprthoptist:

- sessions are released on the app and you can accept them as you are available, if someone else accepts first, the shift will no longer be available so there is no confusion,

- you can update your availability anytime,

- all your confirmed sessions are stored in the app for easy reference

- there is also a Client App, where you can request a locum an it will go in the system “live”, no more waiting for reply texts.

- you will be able to see immediately if an orthoptist has accepted your session

Laser Vision SA is seeking the services of an experienced Full Time Orthoptist who would enjoy helping our patients achieve their best vision.

: Providing case support for Ophthalmic surgery.

: Monitoring field inventory effectively to ensure appropriate levels of inventory in each location relative to demand.

: The gathering of market intelligence on customer competitor activity and communicating this to Account/National Managers and Divisional team members.

: Facilitating and conducting Nurse education days.

: Ensuring the highest level of product knowledge is continually attained and maintained.


About you

You will need to be a person who

: Has a minimum of 5 years relevant Ophthalmic experience or an advanced orthoptist/optometry degree.

: Has proven experience in nursing, in a clinical and or medical device arena.

: Displays effective communication and interpersonal skills.

: Can interact positively and participate effectively in a team environment whilst also working successfully in an autonomous capacity.

: Has the ability to build credible relationships with all stake holders.
